Test the decision before you make it

  • Capacity and shifts: test new lines, machines, extra shifts or overtime before committing capital.
  • Disruption: simulate breakdowns, maintenance windows, supplier delays and material shortages, and compare recovery options.
  • Demand: stress-test plans against surges, seasonal peaks and promotional uplifts, and check capacity before quoting a large contract.

Complexica's What-if Simulator & Optimiser provides decision support for complex supply chain “what-if” questions by simulating the impact of a change before it is made on the factory floor or across the network. With Larry, the Digital Analyst® running the simulations, our What-if Simulator & Optimiser can help you:

  • Test capacity and resource changes by modelling the impact of adding, removing or reconfiguring production lines, machines and other resources before committing capital
  • Evaluate shift patterns and overtime to see whether an extra shift or weekend work actually relieves the bottleneck, or simply adds cost
  • Plan for downtime and disruption by simulating machine breakdowns, maintenance windows, supplier delays and material shortages, and comparing recovery options
  • Assess rush orders and new business to understand which existing orders would be delayed, and whether there is capacity to take on a large contract before you quote
  • Minimise changeovers by comparing sequencing rules and run sizes to reduce setup time and maximise throughput
  • Respond to demand shifts by stress-testing production and inventory plans against demand surges, seasonal peaks and promotional uplifts
  • Balance inventory and service levels by trialling different safety stock, reorder and production policies to find the right trade-off between working capital and customer service

What-if Simulator & Optimiser - simulated production schedule showing resource utilisation by line and the resulting work orders

Our What-if Simulator & Optimiser is commonly used to optimise outcomes and predict the operational impact (i.e. resource utilisation, throughput, on-time delivery, cost and inventory) of making changes to:

  • Production capacity, lines and equipment
  • Resource efficiency, availability, timetables and shift patterns
  • Production sequencing and scheduling rules
  • Demand forecasts and supply plans
  • Inventory policies and safety stock levels
  • Sourcing, supplier lead times and distribution

What-if Simulator & Optimiser - configuring production resources, efficiency rates, compatible resources and timetables for a what-if simulation

Every scenario runs against a digital model of your operation, so planners can compare alternatives side by side, quantify the trade-offs between cost, efficiency and service, and implement the best option with confidence, without disrupting day-to-day operations.

Common questions

Can we start with one module?

Yes. Decision Cloud® is fully modularised, so you can start with the module that solves today’s problem (for example pricing, promotions or demand planning) and add others as you grow. Every module runs on the same AI engine and the same data.

How long does implementation take?

It depends on the scope. Every engagement starts with a no-cost workshop, followed by a fixed-price, fixed-time scoping engagement that defines the deployment milestones, cost estimates and business benefits. Deployments are then staged rather than “big bang”, which reduces risk and brings forward the return on investment. See our frequently asked questions for each stage of the engagement model.

Which ERP systems do you integrate with?

Decision Cloud® has a set of standard integration APIs for common ERP systems and platforms, as well as public data sources such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Bureau of Meteorology. The specific interfaces for your systems are defined during the scoping engagement.
